This month's discussion features Zachary Krochtengel of Sycamore Development on the West End Square Lofts, a historic redevelopment project that broke ground this year next to the West End DART station.
The roughly 288,000-square-foot mixed-use development pairs a historic building and garage with new construction, delivering 154 housing units (including affordable workforce housing), 20,000 square feet of retail, and a half-acre pedestrian plaza. It replaces nearly an acre of downtown surface parking with open space and homes, aiming to add affordable housing, revitalize the West End station area, and create a new retail destination. After a year of tough news for Downtown, this one's a real, shovel-in-the-ground win worth celebrating.
