'Let's Create a Better Intersection' with Better Block!
Better Block aims to eventually take on an intersection in every Dallas district. The first meeting + walk audit is Tuesday, June 16 in District 9: Lakewood Elementary School!
Dallas continues to lose neighbors to preventable traffic deaths every year. Better Intersections is grounded in Vision Zero, the global framework built on a simple but radical premise: no death or serious injury on our streets is acceptable or inevitable.
Quick pilots can create lasting change. The Better Intersections Initiative tests real solutions in real conditions right now, giving the City data it can actually use to justify permanent investments. Parents, teachers, seniors, shopkeepers: the people who walk these streets every day already know where the danger is. Better Intersections puts that lived knowledge at the center of the process, not the margins.
How the Project Works
Step 1 - Community Meeting + Walk Audit: Residents, schools, and local partners join Better Block to document how an intersection functions today, where people hesitate, where visibility fails, where the street design asks too much of the human body.
Step 2 - Pilot Demonstration: Community volunteers help install a quick-build demonstration using paint, bollards, planters, signage, and flexible curb extensions: low-cost, adjustable, and fast.
Step 3 - Test & Evaluate: The pilot stays active while the team collects behavioral data, community observations, and public feedback to understand what’s working.
Step 4 - Next Steps: Findings go directly to Council member offices to inform future permanent infrastructure decisions.

District 1: West Clarendon Drive north of Martin Weiss Park

A senior-focused project creating a safer connection to the park, bus stops, and the surrounding neighborhood.
